POETRY MONTH

April is National Poetry Month. Did you know that the first piece of published poetry was in 2100 B.C. It is the "Epic Tale of Gilgamish" which told the story of a hero from acient Mesopotamia.

As with other forms of writing it has evolved and now we can enjoy different styles such as Haikus, Limericks, Sonnets, and Odes to name a few. Authors such as Alexander Kwame and Jaqueline Woodson have written whole novels in verse.

This month cozy up to some poetry and delve into a poets words and emotions and cling on to the profound meaning.

Check out the SAISD Poetry Slide Deck and submit your own poem.
